orrington PTA meeting on 11/18 -- vote on one fund
Please join us on Wednesday, November 18 at 7pm for a virtual PTA meeting. We will be joined by Biz Ryan, District 65 School Board member. Biz will introduce herself to our Orrington community and host a question and answer session about One Fund for District 65, the PTA Equity Project’s initiative to pool PTA fundraising from all D65 schools and distribute it back to PTAs using a formula that prioritizes equity. Biz was a founding member of the PTA Equity Project (PEP).
Orrington PTA membership (which is all households with children attending Orrington) will vote on whether to participate in One Fund after our meeting. If you would like to learn more about PEP, please visit their website at ptaequityproject.com. A recording of the One Fund Town Hall can be found here: https://ptaequityproject.com/our-work For additional questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Next steps - anti-racism learning studio
Evanston is beautiful, liberal, diverse...and racist. Despite our best intentions, Evanston’s practices and policies disproportionately harm our Black and Brown community. APPLY to The Next Steps Anti-Racism Learning Studio to ORGANIZE and BUILD truly anti-racist Evanston schools.
In our third year of programming with the District 65 community, Next Steps is using an application and cohort model. We invite diverse and demographically representative school teams and individuals to apply by December 9. For the application and more information, visit www.NextStepsEvanston.com.
directory emails sent again today! are you still waiting to get connected?
Our directory is gradually filling up, but we need your help to make it happen. Orrington PTA is using an online directory, hosted by AtoZ Connect, to manage family contact information. We are trying to have a complete directory so our community can connect with each other this year!
Those families who agreed to release their information when registering with District 65 are already included in the Directory and received an email earlier this week--from Orrington PTA--to verify their information. Check your inbox! You will need to verify the information before it is released.
If you did not agree to release your information and would like to be included in the Directory, click this link: https://atozconnect.com Please fill in as much or as little information as you would like to be listed in the Directory. There is room for multiple addresses, phone numbers and email addresses if you would like them listed.
If you have any questions, please contact Sonia Kinra at email@example.com. Thank you!
boxes of stories across evanston
Our “Boxes of Stories” book bins in front of Orrington are full of great books and free to all D65 students. Some of our books are now at Fleetwood Jourdain (1655 Foster St) and they have made it outdoors at last! They are on a shelf outside the main entrance during business hours and will be re-stocked regularly. We would like to thank Mr. Dorsey at Fleetwood Jourdain for his help!
Please come take a look at Orrington or Fleetwood for books to read--there are books across every reading/interest level! We are always accepting book donations—if you have books your children are no longer reading, please donate them so another D65 student can enjoy them! Please leave donated books in the “To Be Sorted” bins at Orrington.
volunteers are always needed!
We are still looking for some fun loving caregivers who would like to be Community Connectors. Community Connectors have replaced the role of room parents. Community Connectors will embrace the diversity and richness of the Orrington community by working together in grade-level teams to make connections, support teachers, build community and unite families and students. Each grade-level group will organize at least one (virtual) community-building event this year. We are looking for volunteers for first grade, fourth grade and fifth grade!
If you are interested in volunteering as a Community Connector (or in any capacity) please enter your information HERE and someone will reach out to discuss this or other current open PTA POSITIONS you have interest in. The 2020-21 school year will be like no other and we need volunteers more than ever to help us build community during this uncertain time.
