A Message from Mr. Latting

July 1, 2020

Dear Haven Community -

Chris Latting I am delighted and honored to be joining Haven’s team of vibrant, caring and forward-thinking educators, families, students, and community partners. As your new Principal, I am eager to serve and support our educator and student teams in ways that allow us to do the work that fosters a culture and climate of equity. Our concerted efforts will amplify our ability to create environments where students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

I join Haven’s team with a career dedication to best practices, as well as teaching and leadership experience serving learners from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Throughout my career, I have facilitated the implementation of a wide variety of programs and practices that increase student success.  I have also been responsible for coaching, mentoring and supporting educators through many aspects of their professional growth and development. However, the most important thing that I have learned throughout my education and career is also the simplest: that every child and every child’s progress matters – every child, every day, whatever it takes! At Haven we will work collaboratively to challenge, nurture and inspire all of our students, enabling them to take bold, well-considered and proactive steps into life-long learning. I am sure that along the way, they will challenge and inspire us, too! I am extremely excited about working with and getting to know the Haven students. They are the heart of the work that we do.

Aside from myself, there will be two additional new faces joining the Haven family. I would like to introduce Dr. Trisha Baker, and Mr. Michael Johnson as Haven’s new Assistant Principals. This year marks Dr. Baker’s 21st year in the district. Her experience with differentiated instruction and her familiarity with our curriculum are great assets to our team. Mr. Johnson joined the district three years ago and brings with him several years of school leadership success in Chicago Public School District. Prior to coming to Haven, he was an integral member of the leadership teams at Dr. Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies, Orrington Elementary, and Lincolnwood Elementary.

During the next several weeks we will be completing customary summer maintenance projects at Haven. In addition to that, like many schools across the country, we will be collaborating with our district teammates to help us create the frameworks for our return to school. We will be purposeful in our communication to students, families, and staff regarding expectations and protocols. Please stay tuned for these and other updates.

Yours in education,

Christopher Latting
