Join an ABC Family Group Committee!

The African-American, Black, and Caribbean Parent Family Group is inviting D65 parent/guardians to join one of several committees! The ABC Family group is designed to create community and a safe space where parents and guardians of ABC children can come together to discuss policy, influence change, and learn about the initiatives in District 65. Committee options include the Welcoming Committee, Social Committee, and Policy Committee. Join the Welcoming Committee

Design an outreach plan and materials to create a welcoming space which re-energizes our members, attracts new members, and encourages long term participation.


Example of activity (not a comprehensive list):

  • Create an on-boarding packet & process to formally integrate new members into the family group
  • Identify and develop ABC home school leaders
  • Develop ideas to make our meetings, social events, and outreach truly welcoming

Join the Social Committee

Plan several creative family fun events for parents, children, and caregivers throughout the school year.


Example of activity (not a comprehensive list):

  • Plan social meetups such as spa days & movie night
  • Plan back to school, end of school year, and seasonal celebrations

Join the Policy Committee

Collaborate with parents and the office of Black Student Success to identify institutional changes that will improve the school level and classroom experience for ABC students, and overall academic outcomes.


Example of activity (not a comprehensive list):

  • Develop recommendations to improve the cultural responsiveness of D65 curriculum
  • Develop recommendations for improvements to teacher & student assessments
  • Develop recommendations to improve D65 magnet programs such as African Centered Curriculum (ACC) and Two-Way Immersion (TWI).
