District 65 Announces School Board Vacancy

Rebeca Mendoza, member of the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Board of Education, submitted her resignation, effective April 28, 2021. Ms. Mendoza’s board service began in 2017. She was reelected in 2019 and served on multiple board committees as Chair of the Policy Committee, City-School Liaison Committee, and the Head Start Parent Policy Committee.

 

"On behalf of the school board, I would like to thank Rebeca for her four years of service on the District 65 board,” said Anya Tanyavutti, Board President. “She has been a consistent, unwavering, impactful champion for early childhood, environmental justice and high quality bilingual services."

 

To fill the vacancy, the Board of Education will seek applicants from across the District 65 community. In order to be eligible to serve, a school board member must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and Evanston/Skokie School District 65 for at least one year.

 

Applications are available online and at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center (1500 McDaniel Avenue, Evanston). Application documents must be submitted by Friday, May 21, 2021, at 4pm. 

 

The applicant selected will be announced at the June 14, 2021 Regular Board Meeting.
