Magnet Program enrollment
District 65 offers two magnet programs for families - the African-Centered Curriculum (ACC) program and the Two-Way Immersion (TWI) Program. In order to participate in these programs, families will need to complete a "Limited School Choice" application to be considered for the programs. Information will be sent directly to families when the application window is open.
Oakton Elementary School is home to the African-Centered Curriculum (ACC) program and features lessons and activities that engage students in African and African-American history. Small class sizes and strong family involvement help students to develop a deeper understanding of these rich cultures.

Two-Way Immersion (TWI Program)
As a part of the Two-Way Immersion program, curricular studies and activities are enriched with Spanish language and culture. Spanish is the predominant teaching language in the earliest grades and gradually shifts to English as students matriculate through the program. Native Spanish speakers are tested to determine placement in a bilingual education program and native English speakers may apply to participate in the Two-Way Immersion program. The TWI program is available at Dawes, Dewey, Oakton, Washington, and Willard elementary schools.
During the 2018-2019 school year, the TWI program was offered to all kindergarten students enrolled at Dr. Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies. One grade level will be added annually eventually making the global studies school the first to offer TWI at all levels. Click here to learn more about the program.
