Student Assignment Planning (SAP) Phase III
Overview
Student Assignment Planning is a critical and necessary process for District 65 to incorporate community priorities and feedback to close opportunity gaps and eliminate racial predictability in outcomes.
The process is rooted in the tenets of the SAP project that began in 2021, with emphasis on:
- engaging the community to shape the District's school assignment process, and
- addressing historic inequities that significantly impact students of color.
Foster Transition
The purpose of the Foster School Transition Committee is to plan for and support the transition of students and families from their current schools into the future Foster School community. Key actions will include community engagement strategies, serving in an advisory capacity, communicating the work, and promoting Foster School.

Engagement Opportunities
Committee
The purpose of the Foster School Transition Committee is to plan for and support the transition of students and families from their current schools into the future Foster School community. Key actions will include community engagement strategies, serving in an advisory capacity, communicating the work, and promoting Foster School.
The committee will help the new principal with decisions regarding Foster School and in forming sub-committees to determine new and prospective family engagement, out-of-school program designs to support a STEM focus, celebrating and honoring the legacy of the 5th Ward and Foster School inside the school walls, and other aspects of the school culture and environment as they are identified.

- First meeting was November 13, 7-8:30 p.m. in JEH Board Room, 1500 McDaniel Ave., Evanston.
- Currently, members will meet once or twice a month in the evenings for 1.5 hours, but that may change as the project evolves.

- Recognize the diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and experiences of the future Foster School community to ensure equitable, accessible, and consistent opportunities for family and community engagement

Dual Language
The purpose of this committee is to make a recommendation for the placement of the next dual language middle school program: Chute Middle School or Nichols Middle School. This second location will begin with a 6th grade cohort in the 2026-2027 school year.

Dual language program launches at second middle school
The committee recommended Nichols Middle School as the second location for the Dual Language Middle School program beginning in fall 2026. The Dual Language Middle School program will expand to Chute Middle beginning in fall 2027, as shown in the images below.

- District 65 is seeking two parent/caregiver representatives from each TWI school and each middle schools. Each pair of school representatives should have at least one Spanish speaking parent/caregiver. If more than two parents/caregivers apply to the committee from a school, representatives will be randomly selected.

TWI Program Priorities

Committee
The purpose of the Early Childhood Committee is to understand the strengths, needs, and gaps in resources to improve services for early childhood (ages 0-5) as part of the Student Assignment Planning (SAP) III process.
The work of this committee will help shape plans for Early Childhood programs in the district. The central question guiding this work is: How do we expand preschool programming options to better serve our community and provide a more inclusive model? Specifically, this includes offering both half-day and full-day program options and exploring the consolidation and expansion of current preschool and family programs for children aged 0–5.
