Student Assignment Planning (SAP) Phase II
Overview
After over a year of robust community engagement, on March 14, 2022, the Board approved a new Student Assignment Plan and a funding plan to build a school in Evanston's Fifth Ward. The project's next phase is determining where D65 should place programs.
In SAP Phase I, the committee recommended that programs be placed closest to where students who qualify for them live. Community members overwhelmingly suggested that we not introduce new programs but improve our current offerings.SAP Phase II committee will analyze data from Phase I, Phase II's community discovery tours, and data from the Educational Equity in Evanston project. After reviewing the data, the committee will use TregoEd decision-making process to determine programming locations.

Current Programs
African Centered Curriculum (ACC)
The ACC program offers a nurturing environment designed to help students achieve academic success, independence, and the cultural competence to live and learn in a diverse community. While students learn the same robust curriculum as other D65 students, teaching and learning centers around the identity, heritage, and culture of people of African descent.
Two-Way Immersion (TWI)
TWI is a Spanish and English program option for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The TWI program is offered at six schools.
- TWI classrooms are made up of approximately half Spanish-speaking students and half English-speaking students.
- Students have a specially trained bilingual teacher.
- Reading and writing are taught to students in both English and Spanish in kindergarten through fifth grade.
- Science and social studies are taught to all students in Spanish in kindergarten through fifth grade.
- Math is taught in Spanish in kindergarten through fourth grade and in English in fifth grade.
Rice Education Center
Rice is a therapeutic day school program whose task is to provide emotional support and academic opportunities to children who have been unable to succeed in community school settings due to emotional, learning, and behavioral difficulties.
Park School (3 yrs - 22 yrs)
Park is for students who could benefit from a self-contained educational facility for reasons of safety, health, and/or the need for an intensive therapeutic environment. At the core of the program are functional, realistic goals that assist with the transition from a school environment to that of the community.
Rigorous Individualized Specialized Program (RISE) at King Arts
RISE is a self-contained, special education program which provides a supportive and rigorous educational experience for students who present moderate to significant disabilities and require special education instruction for more than 50 percent of the school day.
Structured Teaching Education Program (STEP) at Lincoln and Lincolnwood Schools
STEP is a self-contained, special education program primarily for students who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
