Meta Summer Experience (MSX)

alt-text

Explore STEAM with MSX! Designed for 5th-7th graders, this program offers a community-focused STEAM learning environment. Guided by mentors, Northwestern University faculty, and teaching interns, youth study Evanston's history and local community. The curriculum, created by NU faculty, supports differentiated literacy learning. Afternoons feature optional camp experiences with STEAM topics like Interactive Storytelling, Coded Beats, and 8 Bit Bootcamp. MSX is offered in partnership with Northwestern University and Evanston Community Partners.

We believe students need equal access to the high-quality resources they deserve, in order to realize their potential. With the support of our community, this summer experience will help your child be successful at school and beyond!

The McGaw YMCA MSX program will take place Monday through Friday from 8:30am-12:30pm at Nichols Middle school. Options for afternoon activities will be available, more info to come! There will be no program on June 19 or July 4.

Student Selection
We prioritize students who are working toward mastering grade-level expectations in reading and/or math. Additional consideration will be given to students eligible for free and reduced lunch. MSX caters to students who would benefit from practice and support through hands-on STEM experiences. We seek students who demonstrate strong group collaboration skills with minimal guidance, ensuring a supportive and productive learning environment for all.

Parent/Caregiver Agreements
Great news! This program is available at absolutely no cost for free and reduced-price lunch eligible students who are accepted. To make the most of this opportunity, families and caregivers are required to agree to all McGaw YMCA policies including those related to: Child Safety, Health and Wellness, and Code of Conduct.
