Collaboration in Evanston
For the third consecutive summer, Caring Outreach by Parents in Evanston (COPE) is partnering with District 65, the Evanston Community Foundation, and the D65 PTA Council in an effort to provide school supplies for students in need. With over 40% of students qualifying for free or reduced price meals, there are many families who need our support. Last year, over 1,000 students, including homeless and immigrant youth in the district, were served through this partnership. The gap is closing; however, there is still great need! Together, we can make sure our children are ready to start a new school year prepared to learn and ready for success.
COPE is working to organize community support and raise funds, District 65 will source and order the supplies, and the PTA Council will coordinate volunteers to assemble and distribute supplies so all funds raised can be dedicated to the cost of supplies. In addition, all Evanston Starbucks locations and both Curt's Cafe locations have bins available and are collecting backpack donations.
Individuals and organizations are invited to make donations to help reach this year's fundraising goal of $30,000. By attaining this goal, approximately 1,100 District 65 students will be ready to start school with new backpacks and necessary school supplies. Any donation makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools!
