POSITIVE BEHAVIOR AND INTERVENTION SUPPORT (PBIS)
WHAT IS PBIS?PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. It is a system of behavior management and support that helps teachers adopt and organize behavior interventions. PBIS is a system focused on preventing behavior issues for all students and creating an environment for that enhances academic and social outcomes throughout the school.
At Chute, PBIS is supported through four main components: expectations, referrals, eagle stamps, and celebrations. The goal is create a positive environment where children learn to own their behaviors, correct their mistakes, and develop empathy for others.

WHAT IS THE CHUTE CHOICE?The Chute Choice are school-wide expectations: Be Responsible, Respectful, and Striving to be Successful.
Ricky Byrdsong was the men’s basketball coach at Northwestern University from 1993 to 1997. Byrdsong was killed while he was jogging with Ricky Jr. and Kelley, two of his three young children. A victim of a hate crime, he was murdered by a member of a white supremacist group on a street near his home in Skokie, Illinois, on July 2, 1999. The Evanston YWCA Race Against Hate and the Chute Middle School PTA sponsored Ricky Byrdsong Citizenship Award, both in their 16th year, honor the spirit and legacy of Mr. Byrdsong.
