CREATE 65

In order to be eligible to apply for the CREATE 65 Teacher Residency and to be considered for acceptance into the Chicago State University graduate school, an individual must meet the below minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree conferred by an accredited university.
• A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

What are the minimum qualifications to apply to become a Resident Teacher?

To become a CREATE 65 Resident Teacher, interested applicants will need to:

• Have or expect to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university prior to the start of the program
• Have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Have U.S. citizenship or have status as a permanent resident

Do I need to have an education degree to become a Resident Teacher?

No, you don’t need to have a degree in education to apply to for a CREATE 65 Teacher Resident position. In fact, we are looking for aspiring teachers who have no previous teaching experience. You do need to have earned a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and have had at least a 3.0 GPA.
 

Can I apply to the Teacher Residency Program if I already have a teaching license?

CREATE 65 is designed for aspiring teachers who don’t have any previous teaching experience. If you already have a teaching license, we recommend you look at our D65 Job Board for our current open teaching positions.
 

Is there an age requirement to participate in the CREATE Teacher Residency Program?

No, there is no age requirement to become a CREATE 65 Teacher Resident. We believe aspiring teachers can be adults of any age.
 

Do I have to live in Evanston to participate in the CREATE Teacher Residency Program?

No, you don’t have to live in Evanston to become a resident. CREATE 65 does not require you to be a resident of Evanston or Skokie to be accepted into the residency. Nor does the district have any requirements for employees to live in Evanston or Skokie.
 

Can I participate in the CREATE 65 Teacher Residency program if I require a visa for study or work?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. The design of a residency program is to train teachers who will then go work in a district classroom as employees. Our CREATE 65 residents must be eligible to work in the United States, and be in a position to make at least a 5 year commitment to the District (which includes a year of residency and 4 years as an employee). District 65 is not sponsoring H1-B work visas.
