• CHILD CARE, EXTRACURRICULAR, AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

    King Arts is home to many outstanding enrichment and extra curricular programs that are sponsored by the school and in conjunction with external partners, including the PTA, Y.O.U. (Youth Organization Umbrella), and District 65. The list below includes many of the major programs and links to access more information.

    SCHOOL AGE CHILDCARE - The School Age Childcare program (SACC) sponsored by District 65 offers before and after school care options for students in kindergarten – 5th grade. Click here to learn more.

    RIGHT AT SCHOOL – CHILDCARE AND AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT - Right at School offers The Right Club (extended day care), Enrichment on Demand (enrichment classes at King Arts right after school each day), and Half Day Camp on early release days.     ATHLETICS – GRADES 6-8 – Intermural and interscholastic middle school sports are organized and coached by the King Arts Physical Education Team and are offered for all 6th through 8th grade boys and girls in the fall, winter and spring. Sports that are offered are soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Click here to learn more.

    ATHLETICS – GRADES 4 & 5 - Parent volunteers have the opportunity to coach 4th and 5th grade teams for flag football and basketball during the school year. Please contact the King Arts PTA at kingartspta@gmail.com for additional information.

    BATTLE OF THE BOOKS – GRADES 4 & 5 - This enrichment program runs from November to April. Students read a set number of books and form teams which compete in a district-wide competition in May. For more information, click here.

    BOOK NOOK - Book Nook is King Arts' parent-run bookstore for students. New and used books are sold at bargain prices. Book Nook is open during recess and lunch (appox. 10:30a -12:15p) once or twice a week. To set up an account for a student or learn about volunteer opportunities, click here.

    DANCE - Programs led by the King Arts Dance Department include:
    • Dance Performance Ensembles – Grade 7 & 8
    • 7th and 8th Grade Musical (this event occurs every other year)
    DEBATE CLUB – GRADES 6-8 - The Debate Club is a great place for students to learn the art of "organized arguing". Students will discuss the current circumstances of today's world and develop a strong voice with good presentation skills. These skills will be fostered in a fun and safe club environment. Students will learn to create logical, factual, and ethical arguments to persuade their fellow debaters (competitors) that their stance is "correct".     EVANSTON SCHOLASTIC CHESS / CHESS CLUB - Evanston Scholastic Chess is a group of parents and volunteers who lead and organize school chess clubs in Evanston. They serve students in grades K-8 who either live in Evanston or attend an Evanston school. Various levels are accommodated, but students should know the rules of chess and be able to a play a game.     EVANSTON SWIMS – GRADE 2 - Evanston Swims!, a partnership between the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, the McGaw YMCA, and District 65, provides all second grade children in Evanston with free water safety instruction and swim lessons. On District 65's early dismissal days once a month, second graders whose families choose to participate in the program are bussed to the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, Three Crowns Park, or the McGaw YMCA.     GARDEN CLUB – GRADES 3-5 - Garden Club is open to students in grades 3-5 and meets weekly during planting season in the spring. For additional information please contact the King Arts PTA at kingartspta@gmail.com.

    GIRLS ON THE RUN – GIRLS GRADES 3-5 - Girls on the Run is a running program for girls in grades 3-5. The goals of the Girls on the Run program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development. At the end of the program, the girls participate in the Girls on the Run-Chicago 5k—an event to celebrate inspiration, achievement, spirit, and girl power. The program takes places March-May.     MATHCOUNTS – GRADES 6-8 – A national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests. For more information please contact Ms. Figueroa at figueroaj@district65.net.

    MATH OLYMPIAD- GRADE 5 - Math Olympiad is a math club designed to stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics. Students in grades 5-8 meet one time per week during their advisory period. It is open to all, and throughout the year students engage in learning about critical math concepts, strategies and flexibility for problem solving and helps promote mathematical creativity and ingenuity. We also focus on helping students understand how to meet challenges and experience the satisfaction and joy when the Mission is accomplished.     MUSIC – VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL - Programs led by the King Arts Music Department include:

    Y.O.U AFTER SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP - GRADES 5-8 - Y.O.U. offers a free, high-quality after-school program to King Arts students every day from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program helps students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers a broad array of enrichment activities; and provides literacy and other educational services to the families of participating students. Participating students receive a healthy snack every day and busing is provided for all students at no charge. Please click here for more information.
