What is Social-Emotional Learning?
Social and emotional learning (SEL) Is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

How does D65 support Social-Emotional Learning?
SEL programs available to D65 PreK-8th grade students
- Conscious Discipline (Early Childhood)
- Second Step (K, 1st and 4th grade)
- Taught during the Social-Emotional Equity Learning (SEEL) class each week.
- Erika’s Lighthouse (4th and 6th grade)
- Taught during SEEL for 4th grade and Advisory for 6th grade.
- Character Strong (6-8th grade)
- Taught in Advisory for 6th grade and by content area educators in 7th and 8th grade

Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) for our K-8 Students
DESSA screener provides information about;Panorama Education for our 3rd-8th grade Students
This is a short online survey, given to students twice a year, to gain insight from students regarding their experiences of equity, inclusion, and social and emotional learning.
5Essentials Survey
The 5Essentials survey is given to fourth through eighth-grade students, and families once a year. Student responses provide school leaders with valuable insight that is used to develop effective school improvement plans.
