Master Facilities Planning
-
As part of our multi-faceted approach to sustainable short and long-term financial planning for our future, the School Board approved the recommendation to hire Cordogan Clark to lead Master Facility Planning on June 14, 2021. This firm was the most qualified bidder and their robust planning experience and commitment to educational equity were ultimately why it was recommended by members of our community-based Student Assignment Project Committee and our leadership team. This firm was tasked with the work of facilities assessment, master planning, feasibility studies, programming, space and capacity planning, ADA and Life/Safety analysis and implementation, and enrollment and demographics analysis. More info including proposals and scope of work can be found in the June 7, 2021, Finance Committee Packet, (meeting video). The Master Facilities Planning outcome will serve as a guide for assessing the need for facility improvements and capital investments to implement them.

Facilities Planning Community Voice
The diverse voices who represent our community are critical to this process and the future of our public schools. District 65 hosted a virtual Thought Exchange in January of 2022 to hear from all stakeholders on facility needs and priorities across our schools both in the short term and well into the future. The feedback from this Thought Exchange, a Student Assignment Planning Survey in Fall 2021, and interviews with identified stakeholder groups were incorporated into the Master Facility Planning (MFP) process. Using these various methods to reach all stakeholders allowed us to better understand the conditions of our buildings and infrastructure, student enrollment and demographic trends and projections, overall building use and potential efficiencies, as well as how we can use our facilities to better meet the educational and social-emotional needs of our students.
The Thought Exchange allowed participants to share their thoughts, and rate the thoughts of others. Participants could engage in the Thought Exchange in various languages. All thoughts were anonymous. The purpose of this Thought Exchange was to gather ideas and better understand the needs and desires of our community. Data gathered from the MFP team as well as perspectives of our community was used to develop long-range facility plans and a more equitable Student Assignment Plan.
