2022-2023 PTA Leadership Committee and Selection Committee - Volunteers Needed ^New

The PTA has 4 vacancies on our 2022-2023 leadership committee and we are seeking 4 people to help choose our next leadership committee volunteers.  This role will require reaching out to people that are nominated and helping select and match interested volunteers to open positions.  Work to start after spring break and be complete by mid-May.  Approximately 6 hours of total volunteer time over about 7 weeks including meeting with other selection committee members and interested volunteers.  Reach out to jessicaisaac1@gmail.com if interested in helping with this task.  THANKS!  

For 2022-23, the PTA Leadership Committee has the following roles filled by current PTA Leadership Committee members that are continuing on for the rest of their term:

• Academic Engagement - Jess Lang 
• Fundraising - Maria Opdycke
• Community Engagement - Jessica Isaac
• Finance - Junjun Cao

The PTA is seeking volunteers to fill the following 4 vacancies:

• Communications 
• 2 Volunteers Needed - ideally 1 that is Spanish bilingual
• Oversee a committee of volunteers to manage: the weekly newsletter, the PTA/school calendar, website updates, social media postings, Classroom Communications, Dewey family Directory, and flyer/poster/banner creation
• Largely Digital Work that would require access to a computer
• 2-3 hours of time per week including meeting attendance
• Administration
• 1 Volunteer Needed
• Manage:  facilitating the Leadership Committee and the Community Conversation meetings including creating and communicating meeting agendas and details, taking of meeting minutes and sharing on all applicable forums, completion of Facility Use Permits, handling mail and documents from Dewey main office, working with school principal to oversee Volunteer background check process
• 1-2 hours of time per week including meeting attendance 
• Equity, Diversity and Inclusion 
• 1 Volunteer Needed 
• Assemble a committee to work on ways to cultivate equity, diversity and inclusion through a variety of ways that could include:  book clubs, workshops, cultural celebrations and events, Courageous Conversations, in-school educational enrichment, bulletin boards, community events and more as defined by the committee
• Be the Dewey PTA Representative to the D65 PTA Equity Project (PEP)
• 1 -2 hours of time per week including meeting attendance

3rd-5th Grade Science Fair ^New

Calling all scientists! Put on your goggles and fill up your beakers, the Dewey Science Fair will be IN-PERSON this year!  The fair will be Tuesday April 12th, 2022 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Dewey with a backup plan to pivot to Virtual. 

If you are interested, please send the requested info (below) to Troy Foster at:  troyRfoster@hotmail.com or speak to your teacher.  Info: Student(s) names, Grade and Teacher(s), Parent name, Parent contact email, and project idea if you have one. You’ll get a confirmation and welcome packet from us.  Application cutoff is March 18th. There may be mentoring assistance and materials support as well.

There will be a drawing for Museum of Science and Industry tickets at the end of the fair for the participants.

Grade Level Events ^New

We are seeking parents and caregivers interested in planning grade level social events this spring and summer.  This includes the 5th Grade Year end celebrations.   Reach out to volunteerdewey@gmail.com  if interested in helping out.  

D65 Native Plant Sale

Spring is on its way and now is the time to order some plants for your yard and garden! The District 65 PTAs are holding the first annual district-wide plant sale to raise money for the Dewey PTA and all District 65 schools through the PTA Equity Project (PEP) One Fund Initiative.

Calling for Fun Run Volunteers!

The Dewey Fun Run is the PTA’s annual spring fundraiser super fun family event.  We will be able to host it IN PERSON and outdoors on the Dewey field.  We need your help to make it Pawesome! The Fun Run will be held in May so there is plenty of time to get those creative juices flowing for a great event. There are lots of ways to help out so check out the sign up genius HERE. Let’s get families together, get these students running and start raising funds for next year’s PTA events, programs, and activities!

5 Essentials Survey DEADLINE THIS FRIDAY

Students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the ninth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

• Effective Leaders
• Collaborative Teachers
• Involved Families
• Supportive Environments
• Ambitious Instruction

These reports will be sent to schools and districts in April 2022 and will also be included in the State School Report Card.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted January 11, 2022 through March 11, 2022. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.

Buscamos a voluntarios para el Comité de Liderazgo del PTA 2022-2023 y el Comité de Selección ^NUEVO

Hay 4 puestos disponibles en el Comité de Liderazgo del PTA de 2022-2023 y buscamos a 4 personas para ayudarnos a escoger a nuestros nuevos miembros del Comité de Liderazgo. El trabajo empieza después del descanso de primavera y terminará en la mitad de mayo. Será aproximadamente 6 horas voluntarias en total a través de más o menos 7 semanas, incluyendo a juntas con otros miembros del Comité de Selección y otros interesados en trabajar de voluntario. Feria de Ciencias del 3ro-5to grado ^NUEVO

¡Llamando a todos los científicos! ¡Ponte tus gafas de protección y llena tus vasos de precipitación, la feria de ciencia de Dewey va a ser EN PERSONA este año!  La feria será el Martes 12 de Abril, 2022 de las 6:30 pm a las 8:00 pm en Dewey con un plan de respaldo de girar el evento virtual si hay necesidad. 

Si usted tiene interés, por favor envíe la información necesaria (abajo) a Troy Foster a: troyRfoster@hotmail.com o hable con el maestro de su estudiante.  Información: Nombres de estudiante(s), grado y maestro, nombre del padre, contacto de padre (email), y idea del proyecto si tiene una. Recibirá confirmación y un paquete de bienvenida de nosotros.  La fecha tope para aplicaciones es Marzo 18. Hay asistencia y apoyo de materiales también.

Plantas del Distrito 65 Beneficiará

La primavera está en camino y ahora es el momento de pedir algunas plantas para su jardín. La primera venta anual de plantas del Distrito 65 beneficiará a todas las escuelas del Distrito 65 a través de la Iniciativa del Fondo Único del Proyecto de Equidad de la Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PEP).

¡Llamando a Voluntarios para el Fun Run!

El Dewey Fun Run de la PTA es el evento  familiar súper divertido anual de primavera para recaudar fondos. Lo podremos realizar EN PERSONA y al aire libre en el campo de Dewey. ¡Necesitamos tu ayuda para que sea increíble! El Fun Run se llevará a cabo en mayo, por lo que hay mucho tiempo para hacer fluir esos jugos creativos para un gran evento. Estudio 5Essentials ¡FECHA LIMITE ESTE VIERNES!

Todos los maestros, padres y estudiantes en Illinois tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el décimo año de el Estudio 5Essentials. De parte de la Junta Estatal de Educación de Illinois, el Estudio 5Essentials se administrará en línea por UChicago Impact de la Universidad de Chicago. La encuesta recoge datos relacionados a los cinco indicadores que pueden predecir resultados importantes para estudiantes, incluyendo mejor asistencia y calificaciones en las pruebas.
