Outdoor Seating Provided by PTA Funds

Each student has been supplied a roughly 2’x2’ section of a mat to use throughout the year for all types of outdoor learning, circle time, restorative practice discussions, mindfulness exercise, book reading, and any other creative way our teachers and staff can think to use them.  The PTA diverted funds from our Field Trip budget to cover the roughly $1,500 cost.  We purchased large rolls of yoga mats and parents came together after school pick-up on Wednesday and Thursday to cut them into 500 individual squares.  THANK YOU to caregivers and students that gave their time and effort to make this happen.

Fall Fundraising Appeal

The Dewey PTA funds many programs that support teachers and enhance our school community and student experience.  We have raised $1,215 to date.  Help us reach $5,000 to kick-off the year towards our annual goal of $28,000.

Join us to welcome Dr. Watson and Mr. Ellison to Dewey, to discuss the role of the PTA and goals for the school year and vote on the budget and for a community conversation about the start of the school year, sharing experiences and expectations going forward.

Books & Breakfast 

What is Books & Breakfast (B&B)? Books & Breakfast is a before school program that offers a healthy meal and homework support to Evanston Elementary students. After starting at Dewey Elementary over 20 years ago as a volunteer and PTA effort, B&B is now an independent non-profit offering programming at multiple District 65 school sites. At Dewey, the program will begin on Monday, 9/27 and will meet each morning from 8-8:50 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room. Our daily goal is to help students start their day prepared for learning - physically, emotionally and academically! B&B's mission is to advance educational equity in partnership with District 65.

Volunteering with B&B
Want to get involved with B&B? We are looking for two types of volunteers: Shoppers and Tutors.
      1. B&B Shoppers purchase and deliver breakfast food items either once or twice a month. All expenses are reimbursed by B&B.
      2. B&B Tutors typically commit to one morning a week and receive training to provide reading or math support. Spanish speakers are especially needed!

Evanston CASE (Community, Advocacy, Support, and Education) provides services to improve the lives of Evanston families impacted by disability. CASE advocates for appropriate special education services and promotes the inclusion of families and children in school, community activities and programs. Asientos al aire libre, patrocinados por el PTA

Cada estudiante ha recibido una colchoneta de más o menos 2’x2’ para usar a través del año para todo tipo de aprendizaje afuera, tiempo del círculo, conversaciones de prácticas restaurativas, meditación, lectura, y cualquier otra manera creativa que nuestros maestros puede imaginar para usarlas. El PTA movió recursos de nuestro presupuesto para visitas guiadas para cubrir el gasto de aproximadamente $1,500.  Compramos rollos largos de colchoneta de yoga y padres vinieron después de la escuela el miércoles y jueves para cortarlos en 500 cuadros individuales. MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS a los adultos y estudiantes que donaron su tiempo para lograr esto.

¿Qué es Books & Breakfast/Libros y Desayuno (B&B)? Books & Breakfast es un programa antes de escuela que ofrece una comida saludable y apoyo con tarea escolar para apoyar a estudiantes de escuela primaria en Evanston. B & B empezó en la escuela primaria Dewey hace 20 años como un esfuerzo de voluntarios y PTA, B&B ahora es una organización sin fines de lucro que ofrece programación a múltiples escuelas en el distrito 65. En Dewey el programa comenzará el Lunes, 9/27 y se reúne de 8-8:50 a.m. en el salón multipurpose. Nuestra meta diaria es ayudar a los estudiantes para que comiencen el día preparados para aprender, físicamente, emocionalmente, y académicamente! La misión de B&B es avanzar en la equidad de educación en asociación con el Distrito 65.

Voluntario con B&B
¿Quieres ayudar con B&B? Estamos buscando dos tipos de voluntarios: Compradores y Tutores.
1. Compradores B&B compran y llevan comida de desayuno una o dos veces por mes. Todos los gastos son reembolsados por B&B.
2. Tutores B&B, típicamente se comprometen a ayudar una mañana por semana y reciben entrenamiento para proveer apoyo para leer y matemáticas. Especialmente se busca a gente que hable español!
