Social-Emotional/Equity Learning (SEEL)
Students in Kindergarten, 1st and 4th grade attend SEEL class once a week. SEEL addresses a priority of District 65 to equip our children to be empathetic and kind global citizens who will impact the world in a positive way. The SEEL curriculum was created by a team of teachers and social workers, and incorporates materials from Second Step Social Emotional Learning, interwoven with lessons from additional social justice-oriented sources.
The Second Step Social-Emotional Learning program teaches skills in the following six areas:
- Skills for Learning
- Emotion Management
- Bullying Prevention
- Child Protection
Additional SEEL curriculum has been developed for grades 2, 3, and 5 that can be used by the classroom teacher throughout the school day. They build on the competencies above with additional focus on social justice and mindfulness.
