• COVID-19 Testing

As one of our health and safety measures for the 21-22 school year, District 65 implemented optional COVID-19 testing for students and staff beginning in the fall. As a result of the more contagious Omicron variant, testing has been expanded to include vaccinated individuals. District 65 seeks to safely test as many students and staff per week as a way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in schools.

District 65 has partnered with SHIELD Illinois through the University of Illinois to conduct testing weekly at each District 65 school. Testing occurs on a designated day each week during school hours (no appointments necessary) and is a non-invasive saliva (spit) test. Any updates in schedule will be communicated by the school principal. Please note that testing is unable to be rescheduled due to holidays, non-attendance days, or school closures.

No news is good news! Only positive results will be communicated to the child’s parent/guardian and D65 Health Services staff within 24 hours.

Participation in the SHIELD testing program is optional but strongly encouraged (families would need to opt their child out). Parents/guardians can opt-in or out of testing at any time. To opt your child out of testing, please complete the SHIELD Opt-Out Form. By sending a child to school without opting out of the testing program (in writing), parents/guardians are consenting to their child to be tested for COVID-19 and to have the results and related information shared with District 65 health services staff and local health departments consistent with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance and the Illinois Control of Communicable Disease Code.

Parents/guardians who choose to opt their child out of testing can send the completed form to covid19testing@district65.net or can drop it off at their child’s school. In addition, families who want to change their child's testing status may send an email to the above-listed address or contact the school health clerk.

Students and staff who tested positive within the last 90 days will be temporarily excluded from testing.
