school bus.jpgDistrict 65 contracts with outside vendors to provide transportation services for eligible students.  The transportation provider for students in elementary, middle and magnet school is Positive Connections  (847 676-8680). Questions about service or to check on the status/location of a bus in route should be directed to Positive Connections.  Children enrolled in the Head Start program are transported by Chicago School Transit. Questions about service or to check on the status/location should be directed to the District 65 Transportation Department at 847 859-8053 or 847 859-8019.

Free student transportation is available for elementary students who (1) reside 1.5 miles or more from their attendance area school or (2) reside where walking to school or to a pick-up point or bus stop would constitute serious hazard due to vehicular traffic or rail crossings as identified by Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) criteria and where adequate public transportation is not available.

Free student transportation and vehicle adaptation, where necessary, are available for students with special needs if written in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Free student transportation is also available for English-language learner (ELL) students enrolled in a bilingual education program that is not located in the child’s regular attendance-area school.

The district may provide transportation to and from school-sponsored activities.

No transportation is provided for students who are attending school on a permissive transfer outside their regular attendance area.

Transportation is available for student attending magnet schools or other specially designated schools or programs who: (1) reside at a distance of 1.5 miles or more from their school, or (2) reside within 1.5 miles of their school where walking to school or to a pick-up point or bus stop constitutes a serious hazard due to vehicular traffic or rail crossings as identified by Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) criteria and where adequate public transportation is not available.  Two-thirds of the cost of transportation to a magnet school or program will be borne by the family except when students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. These students will be provided free transportation.
