Members of the public are welcome and invited to address the Board during its regularly scheduled meetings. The first meeting each month is generally on the first Monday. This is a WORKING Board meeting. Members of the public who wish to participate in discussion about agenda topics at a Working Board meeting will be invited to comment during the discussion. Comments not related to agenda topics will be made during Public Comments (generally toward the end of the meeting).
The second Board meeting each month is generally held on the third Monday. This, more formal meeting, is the REGULAR Board meeting. Following are procedures for individuals who wish to address the Board at a REGULAR Board of Education meeting. At these meetings, members of the public may address the Board of Education on school-related issues, either formally or informally. The Board of Education shall not permit the voicing of personal attacks against any district employee.
Formal Presentations: Formal presentations occur at the beginning of each Regular Board of Education meeting. After the agenda is posted, persons wishing to address the Board and appear on the agenda shall notify the Board of Education secretary by noon on the day of the meeting. The person will be asked to identify the subject about which they wish to speak.
Formal presentations occur at the beginning of the meeting. The time for such presentations shall not exceed one hour. Each individual speaker is allotted a maximum of three (3) minutes to address the Board. If there are more than twenty (20) speakers, the time for each individual speaker shall be the prorata portion of one hour. A written statement, provided to the school board secretary prior to the opening of the meeting, is desirable. Written statements provided to the secretary shall become part of the permanent minutes and shall be provided to members of the board.
Informal Presentations: Persons wishing to respond to discussion items on the current agenda, or to discuss items not on the agenda, may do so at the close of the Board of Education discussion of all such items, and when recognized by the president of the Board of Education. The time allowed for informal presentations shall not exceed thirty (30) minutes. Individual presentations shall be no longer than three minutes.
