Board Committees
 
aroundtheworld.jpgPursuant to School Board Policy 2:150, the Board of Education may establish committees to assist with the Board’s governance function and, in some situations, to comply with state law requirements.  These committees are known as Board committees and report directly to the Board.  Committee members may include both Board members and non-Board members depending on the committee’s purpose.  
The President of the Board makes all Board committee appointments unless specifically stated otherwise.  
Board committee meetings shall comply with the Open Meetings Act.  A Board committee may not take final action on behalf of the Board – may only make recommendations to the Board.Members of the Board of Education serve on both internal committees and are assigned to serve Committees of the Board include the Board Finance Committee, Board Policy Committee, and Ad Hoc Greening/Sustainability Committee. 
The Greening/Sustainability Committee was formed by resolution of the Board of Education to review existing practices and identify areas for district wide implementation related to greening and sustainability.  In addition to the two Board members who serve on this committee, there are also teachers, parents, and community representatives.  
The Board Finance Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Education comprised of two appointed Board of education members and a non-voting teacher representative.
The Board Policy Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Education comprised of three appointed Board of Education members.
The Greening/Sustainability Committee was formed by resolution of the Board of Education to review existing practices and identify areas for district wide implementation related to greening and sustainability.  In addition to the two Board members who serve on this committee, there are also teachers, parents, and community representatives.  
The Joint District 65-District 202 Legislative Committee was created by the Boards of Education in March 2013 to continue the work of the Joint Legislative Task Force.  The commtitee is comrpised of two appointed Board of Education members and will begin meeting in 2013-14.
The Joint District 65- District 202 Board Commitee was formed by the Boards and is comprised of two appointed Board of Education members from each Board.
Board members also are actively involved as appointed representatives to external Boards and committees. These include the Board for the Joint Agreement for the Operation of Park School, the City School Liaison, Ed-Red, Foundation 65, and the Wellness Council, to name a few.  
Committee appointments are made at the organization meeting of the Board that is held following the consolidated election in April of odd numbered years.  The 2013-15 Board committee appointments are listed in the attached document. committees 2013-15.pdf
School Board Member School Liaisons
District 65 School Board members are encouraged to become familiar with the entire school community.  Additionally, in order to establish and maintain connections and communication links with parents, individual school board members are assigned certain schools where they can serve as a liaison.
The attached written protocols describe expectations and the board member's role as a school liaison.
