Alex Moore, a Chute Middle School 7th grader, nominated his teacher, Mr.  Mike Roche as a WBBM Newsradio 78’s St. Xavier University Teacher of the Week, gaining recognition for Mr. Roche and a $500 Office Depot gift card for the school.
In accepting the award, Mr. Roche took the attention away from himself, noting that Alex is a top notch student leader.  He added, “I think it reflects the whole community because everyone here in Evanston, parents, administrators, teachers, and students, work hard together to make our school special.  It is very gratifying when a parent, or especially a student, take the time to say think you to a teacher.  But, that’s why teachers here work especially hard, because we do get the support of our involved parents, the District, and at Chute, our Principal, Jim McHolland, and Assistant Principal, Ann Riemenschneider.  Teaching in Evanston and at Chute is a pleasure.”
The contest invites nominations of teachers who deserve to be recognized for a job well done.  The ever-humble Mike Roche, 7th grade language arts and reading teacher at Chute Middle School, is most deserving, often going above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference for his students and in promoting the District 65 middle school athletics program.  In addition to the gift card, Chute Middle School was entered into the running for the Grand Prize – a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a Chicago football player host an assembly at the school.
The $500 prize was turned over to the Randy Barrengos, the Chute School Social Worker, as a scholarship fund for student school supplies.
