MAGNET SCHOOL PLANNING COMMITTEE
2009-2010

COMMITTEE PURPOSE
In response to the five-year strategic plan, a committee will be formed to make recommendations regarding the purpose and the instructional programs of the District’s magnet schools.

Strategic Plan Goal C7:  “Determine the purpose and instructional programs of the District’s magnet schools.  Activity:  Establish a committee and planning process for developing a written purpose and instructional focus for each of the district’s magnet schools”.

COMMITTEE FACILITATOR
Cathy Berlinger-Gustafson will facilitate the Magnet School Committee.  In addition to meeting facilitation, she will be involved in the development of meeting agendas and the final report.  Cathy Berlinger-Gustafson is familiar with District 65 and served as a facilitator for our Middle School Study Committee in 2005.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP
Committee membership will include parents, teachers and administrators from each magnet school.  Additionally, a parent representative from an attendance area elementary school and middle school will be included.  Central office involvement will include the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Middle and Magnet Schools and support staff as needed.  The committee will be limited to approximately 20-24 members in order to ensure an effective working committee.

Parent and teacher membership will be determined through a selection process similar to the selection process used for the Differentiation and Enrichment Committee.  Interested parents and teachers will complete an application.  Members will be selected by the principals in collaboration with central office staff and PTA Presidents.  The membership of the committee will represent the diversity of the schools.

COMMITTEE GOALS
1.      From a historical perspective, review the role of the magnet schools in District 65.
2.      Review the current vision, mission and instructional focus of the magnet schools.
